Tones aren't a musical talent. They're a habit, and habits can be trained.

You already use tones. In your own language, your voice rises when you ask a question and falls when you're sure. Chinese simply uses those same moves inside words.

• short drills you say aloud, with the tone marked on every word

Move or cancel any lesson up to 24 hours before it starts, free of charge. Just use the link in your confirmation email, or write to us.

Less than 24 hours before? Then the lesson is locked in and counts as conducted, even if you can't make it.

Why we ask this: our schedule is full, and every lesson time is held just for you. A last minute cancellation leaves a gap another student could have filled. 24 hours gives us time to offer it to someone else.

A few more things that keep it fair for everyone:

• Running late? Your lesson still ends at its usual time, so the next student starts on time too.
• If we ever need to move a lesson, we'll tell you as early as possible and you choose a new time for free.
